Event Recaps
28

On March 28, 2009, Judy Lao (NAAAP-SF VP of Community Alliance) attended "Be the Change, Be a Leader," an event sponsored by Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics (LEAP) to teach participants how to improve their innate leadership and networking skills. This is what she had to say...

The morning session opened with keynote speaker, David Chiu, Board President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, District 3 and followed with a workshop series.  In "Assertive Interviewing," participants learned how to effectively maximize the success of an interview through assertive communication.  The second morning workshop raised participants' awareness of their leadership styles in order to enable them to foster better work, community, and personal relationships.  After a networking lunch which gave attending associations, such as NAAAP, an opportunity to meet one another, the afternoon continued with additional workshops.  "Executive Communication Skills" taught participants how to enhance their effectiveness when making presentations or when networking in different corporate environments.  A panel discussion was held in "Leveraging Civic Involvement for Career Success," where participants could interact with panelists on how leadership skills were honed and learned through civil engagement.  The program closed with an inspirational speech given by President and CEO of LEAP, JD Hokoyama, where LEAP's mission was emphasized:  Because leaders are made, not born, leadership skills can be cultivated through strong learning environments.

Thanks to Judy for providing a recap of this event for those of us who could not attend.
