NAAAP was fortunate to have four great speakers at our “Asian Leaders in Government” Panel hosted on October 13th, 2011 at Carnelian by the Bay in San Francisco.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
David Chiu- President of the Board of Supervisors of SF
Jane Kim- 1st Korean-American elected official and SF District 6 Supervisor
Paul Miyamoto- Captain in the SF Sheriff's Dept
Sharmin Bock- assistant District Attorney for Alameda County

These individuals shared their personal stories on the sacrifices and gains they made as a leader, what inspired them to become a leader, and what their future plans are. They taught the audience that diligence is the path up the mountain of knowledge; Hard work
is the boat across the endless sea of learning. As leaders representing a big metropolitan city, they have contributed countless hours of community service and brainstorming to create policies in law that will help solve the issues of San Francisco and improve the lives of its citizens.
These leaders prove to be effective and efficient role models for the next generation of Asian Americans through their combination of retroactive and revolutionary leadership. Apart from the panel, NAAAP members and attendees enjoyed a wonderful and intriguing VIP reception in which guests were to meet and mingle with these leaders while at the same time enjoying food and drinks.
In conclusion, the event turned out to be insightful for the younger generation of Asian Americans seeking to learn how to become a leader and the qualities of a good leader. It showed us that an individual can make a difference and as a community, we can make an impact. And as Asians, we come together and become the strength in numbers. In closing, NAAAP Chairman Chris Do said “one chopstick would break but if you put a group of chopsticks together, it wouldn't.”
