Get Involved

Are you passionate about giving back to the community, building your personal and professional network, developing as a leader, and being part of a dynamic committee?

NAAAP-SF is a volunteer based organization, and there are many ways to get involved. We make leaders, and a big part of this mission involves providing our members with a supported way to be actively involved with our organization, learn and develop core leadership skills, and make a difference!

There are a number of ways you can be involved in NAAAP-SF. Every volunteer brings something different and special to our organization. Whether you have a passion, an idea, some time to devote, some skills we can leverage and learn from, or some contacts you can introduce us to, we want to hear from you.

Ready to jump on board now? Email Derek Choy, VP of Public Relations and Volunteer Services. Otherwise, keep reading to learn more.

Why Get Involved?

Our volunteers and committee members find that getting involved with NAAAP-SF is a fulfilling way to develop as a leader and give back to the community.

Our goal is to provide those who choose to get involved with a supported opportunity to:

  • Gain relevant experience or develop new skills
  • Develop and implement their own ideas
  • Give back to the community
  • Make a difference and have fun!

NAAAP-SF also provides a support network for those who choose to get involved. We believe in learning by doing, but we also ensure you have the support you need. Each volunteer is paired with a more experience committee member. In addition, we have access to advice from our accomplished board members and officers, volunteers who have done it many times before and want to share their knowledge and best practice materials/templates developed over time.

How Do I Get Involved?

Considering getting involved? Great! You've made the first step. Now you should decide how you would like to be involved and what you would like to help with.

Every volunteer brings something different to NAAAP-SF. We also recognize that people have different amounts of time they can spend volunteering and can add value in many different ways.

Functional Roles

NAAAP-SF doesn't run itself. Our officers and directors do what is needed to manage logistics, our website, our public relations, our finances and our membership. If you have skills/expertise which you would like to contribute, or if you are looking for a way to develop new skills and gain relevant work experience in an area, we would love to hear from you.

Functional areas you could help with include:

  • Marketing
  • Sponsorship
  • Public relations
  • Website/Technology
  • Growing membership
  • Co-coordinating volunteers services

Event specific roles

We also provide our members with a supported way to get involved in the organization of events. You can be involved at several levels:

Chair or co-chair an event - Events don't organize themselves. Someone has spent time to develop the concept, find the speakers, organize the venue, market the event, organize logistics, coordinate the committee of people helping out, and ensure it all runs smoothly on the night. Could that person be you? Chairing or co-chairing an event is a great way to pursue a passion, gain relevant experience and have a impact. However, depending on the size of the event, it can also take time, dedication and involves taking a responsibility.

Involvement in an event committee - For those with less time but high levels of interest, we also welcome members to get involved as part of an event committee. You could be helping out with pre-event planning, pre-event logistics, or with the on-the-night running of the event. Alternatively, you might bring your contact list to the group, or help market the events to your network. Working with an event chair, and as part of a team of volunteers, is a great, low key way to get involved, develop expertise and skills, and make a difference.

We have many exciting events planned this year across a number of areas. If you are interested in getting involved with event planning, think about where your interests lie, and let us know. General categories of events include:

  • Professional development events (e.g. leadership forums, career advice, mentorship, etc)
  • Entrepreneurship events
  • Community based events
  • Events to promote cultural awareness
  • Large signature events (e.g. picnics, galas, etc)

Just want to help out with whatever you can? No problems! We are doing some exciting things and can always use more help. Just reach out and we'll let you know how you can help.

Please contact Derek Choy, Vice President of Public Relations and Volunteer Services and let us know what you are interested in helping out with.
