Derek Fung - President
Derek is the president of NAAAP-SF. In this role, he is responsible for the overall direction of the chapter and coordination of the officers to ensure that the entire team moves with a shared vision and sense of purpose. Being part of the board of directors, he is also responsible for taking the adivce and experience of the board applying it to NAAAP-SF's planning and activities.
Derek recently moved to the San Francisco area from Washington, DC, where he was also involved with NAAAP-DC activities. He is currently a senior product manager at Recommind, Inc, an enterprise Information Risk Management and eDiscovery software company based out of San Francisco. In this role he drives the direction of the product suite by acting as the central owner of the product's vision, and driving the organization to turn this vision into an actual product though daily oversight and interaction with all other departments to makre sure all product features are delivered at a high level of quality.
Derek holds a double B.Sc. degree in Industrial Management and Information Systems from Carnegie Mellon University, in a little village in Southwestern Pennsylvania called Pittsburgh, He enjoys traveling and running.
Tammy Dang - Vice-President, National Alliance
Tammy Dang is Vice President of National Alliance. In this role, Tammy acts as a liaison between the San Francisco Chapter of NAAAP and the National association. Her goal is to find worthwhile programs and best practices from other chapters around the country to implement in the Bay Area.
Tammy is passionate about working with organizations which develop leaders. This stems from her love of teaching and working with people. Besides working with NAAAP, she also volunteers for various organizations, including a social justice legal clinic, assisting with Chinese interpretation.
Tammy's professional experience has been working around the financial industry. She has also taught English in Japan to elementary and junior high school students and traveled around parts of Asia.
Tammy graduated from New York University with a B.A. degree in Economics and Journalism with a minor in Spanish. In her free time, she plays the clarinet and flute and is also learning how to play the piano.
Philip Hui - Vice-President, Corporate Alliance
Philip Hui is VP of Corporate Alliance for NAAAP-SF. In this role, Philip is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with for-profit corporations.
Previously, Philip was Board Member and Corporate Relations Co-Chair with the Boston chapter of NAAAP. In these roles, he worked closely with corporations such as The Boston Red Sox, Comcast, and Liberty Mutual to organize professional development workshops and to aid diversity initiatives within the respective groups. Philip also served as a Scholarship Committee member to evaluate applications and to interview candidates for awards of $10,000 in scholarship funds.
Professionally, Philip is an R&D Engineer with a medical device startup in Redwood City developing an advanced wound therapy device. Before moving to California in mid-2008, Philip was Project Leader at an orthopedic medical device startup in Beverly, MA where he successfully led the development and commercialization of a Class II implant device.
Philip holds a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA. He is an avid snowboarder and enjoys dining out with family and friends.
Judy Lao - Vice-President, Community Alliance
Judy Lao is VP of Community Alliance for NAAAP-SF. In this role, Judy is tasked with interacting with other bay area community organizations, and keeping NAAAP-SF aware of community projects and activities.
Judy brings her experience of developing relationships to NAAAP-SF. She has previously held various community leadership positions. She was President of the Santa Barbara Legal Secretaries Association and was heavily involved with the Santa Barbara Young Professionals Club. She will be an active and positive representative to the community on behalf of NAAAP-SF.
Professionally, Judy is a Litigation Paralegal for the law firm Bingham McCutchen LLP. Prior to moving back to her hometown of San Jose in September 2008, Judy worked as a Paralegal in Santa Barbara, California, for the law firm of Price, Postel & Parma LLP.
Judy holds a B.A. in Political Science from UCSB. In her down time, you can find her wine tasting and fine dining with friends and family, running with her dog, snowboarding, paddle boarding, dancing, figure skating, playing Fantasy Football, and watching her favorite sports on television.
Minh Phan - Vice-President, Programs
Minh Phan is VP of Programs for NAAAP-SF. In this role, Minh is tasked with managing a portfolio of programs that furthers NAAAP-SF’s mission. Through these programs and officer positions, NAAAP-SF is driving leadership development by providing hands on experience, feedback, and education.
Minh’s initiative at NAAAP-SF is a culmination of his passion for developing leadership skills in others through his roles as President of the Rhinoceros Business Club and Board Member of the National Academy Foundation for Oak Grove high school.
Minh is currently a Senior Product Manager at Symantec, managing a set of Antispam products that support over 70,000 businesses. Prior to Symantec, Minh was a Senior Financial Analyst at PeopleSoft and Product Line Controller at National Semiconductor.
Minh earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business at UC Berkeley and an M.B.A from the University of Michigan. He continues to be an avid fan of both football teams. Minh also enjoys experiencing new cuisines through his travels.
Derek Choy - Vice-President, Public Relations and Volunteer Services
Derek Choy is VP of Public Relations and Volunteer Services for NAAAP-SF. In this role, Derek is responsible for coordinating PR activities, creating opportunities for volunteers to develop as leaders, and coordinating volunteer efforts to chair and be part of committees involved in the running of events.
Derek is currently a co-founder and Vice President of Products at IncentAlign, an innovative Enterprise software startup developing technology which empowers front line employees to drive top line results for companies. Before becoming an entrepreneur, Derek was a Strategy and Innovation Associate at Intuit, where he drove initiatives to enter a new market and develop a new product.
Derek has also been a Senior Associate at The Boston Consulting Group for over three years, where he has developed and helped implement strategies for a diverse range of public sector and private sector clients. While at BCG, his nonprofit and public sector focus was in the development of programs which enable people from all backgrounds to succeed through better education and self development opportunities.
He has dual degrees in Computer Science and Law (Honors) from the University of Melbourne, Australia. He was born and raised in Australia, and has a passion for food. His current mission is to find the best pizza restaurant on the planet.
Lynn Fu - Director of Professional Programs
Lynn Fu is Director of Professional Programs at NAAAP-SF. Lynn’s role at NAAAP is to brainstorm workshop ideas that will help members explore career paths and options. She is responsible for carrying out these ideas by organizing and running events with the help of others. Through these events, she expects members to walk away with skills that are necessary to excel in a professional environment. Examples of workshops include MBA Series, Mock job-interviews and Management Style & Approach.
Lynn brings her experience of leading programs to NAAAP-SF. Lynn was the Chapter Recording Officer of Beta Alpha Psi in college where she organized events to prepare students for work after graduation. For example, "Meet the Professionals" is an annual event that she helped to organize. The event networks accounting/finance students to recruiters and future employers. She invited 7 major accounting firms and corporations. The event attracted over 60 students. Lynn also volunteered for the IRS and filed tax returns for low-income individuals.
Professionally, Lynn has been in the Assurance and Advisory Business Practice at Ernst & Young. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from California State University, East Bay. She is a Certified Public Accountant in California. Currently, Lynn volunteers in the annual professional training program at EY.
Lynn enjoys working out, jogging outdoors and taking Hip Hop dance lessons.
Hank Wang - Treasurer
Hank Wang is the Treasurer for NAAAP SF. As Treasurer, his responsibilities include creating a budget for the year, providing board members, president, and officers with up to date monthly financial statements, and overseeing the finances of NAAAP SF.
Hank was involved with NAAAP Philadelphia before coming to NAAAP SF. Hanks involvement in NAAAP Philly included creating a Tax Seminar for members.
Professionally, Hank is a Tax Manager at a CPA Firm located in Foster City, providing business and tax services to small business and individual throughout the area. He was a partner in an accounting and tax firm in Philadelphia providing business and tax services for Asian minorities for the Greater Philadelphia area.
Hank has a B.S. in Business Administration and currently and enjoys looking for adventures and hanging out with his wife and two kids.
Raymond Luk - Director of Technology
Raymond is Director of Technology for NAAAP-SF. In this role, he is responsible for developing and maintaining the NAAAP SF website and other IT related developments.
Raymond was part of the event planning team during NAAAP 2008 National Convention. Since then, he has been an active member of NAAAP. Raymond will also sit on the Technology Committee for the NAAAP 2009 National Convention.
Raymond is currently a Software Engineer at Medallia, developing enterprise survey engine for top companies in their fields such as Hilton, Apple, and Fidelity. Prior to Medallia, Raymond was an engineer in TeleNav developing real time navigation system for US and China.
Raymond earned his B.S. degree at UC Berkeley and a Master's degree in Software Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. He enjoys trying out different cuisines, watching different genres of films, and traveling.
George Su - Director of Marketing
George Su is Director of Marketing for NAAAP-SF. Responsible for ensuring a professional standard for the organization, he is guiding the next generation of design professionals in graphic design and new media.
George has been working for the National Park Service at Golden Gate National Parks for over 17 years. He was able to get his break into the federal government during his sophmore year at San Jose State University, when he applied for a summer internship through a cooperative education program in 1991. He has been working as the Media Specialist for the Golden Gate National Parks since 1999, where he continues to influence the park professional standards in publications, new media, universal access (accessibility), and the web nationally.
George also manages the Design Volunteers In Parks program with the National Park Service—an innovative program that works with students from the Academy of Art University, Ex'pression College, and R/GA—which helps introduce the next generation of designers to a global market. In 2008, his volunteers (66 students) contributed 9,920 hours of volunteer time to the National Park Service.
George also holds two degrees: Bachelor of Science, Environmental Science with an emphasis in Broadcast Journalism from San Jose State University and Bachelor of Arts, New Media from the Academy of Art University, San Francisco. He is also affiliated with the American Institute of Graphic Artists (AIGA), the Designer's Accord (sustainability), and the Radio Television News Director's Association (RTNDA). He currently spends his time volunteering for various nonprofit organzations like the Taproot Foundation and the San Francisco Orchid Society by providing his expertise in design and new media.
Andrew Chen - Director of Membership
Andrew is Director of Membership for NAAAP-SF, where he helps lead NAAAP's membership outreach, recruitment, and retention efforts.
Andrew has previously been engaged in advisory, coaching, and mentoring for various non-profit / community organizations. He led the production of a documentary film for the Zigen Fund, an education non-profit, and has also consulted professionally on leadership and governance for several organizations, including the School of American Ballet at Lincoln Center and the Committee of 100. Andrew was a founding member of the China Law Digest, a non-profit online legal news journal edited by a consortium of students, researchers, and scholars, and also previously served as a house adviser at Harvard College, coaching students on post-college career plans. He co-taught a core curriculum class on race and ethnicity in American politics as a TF in the college, and was a conference director and trip director for the Asia Law Society at the law school, where he co-organized the largest annual conference on Asian business in North America in 2006, and led a 15-person delegation to Taiwan that met privately with both Taiwanese presidential candidates in 2007.
Andrew is currently a private equity investment professional at Huntsman Gay Global Capital. Prior to Huntsman Gay, he worked for McKinsey & Company in New York City, serving clients on issues relating to strategy, organization, and governance.
Andrew read history at the University of Texas and law at Harvard Law School. He was born and raised a southerner and has deep affection for his native Texas barbeque. In his spare time, Andrew voraciously reads fiction, history, biographies, memoirs, the Times, the New Yorker, and the Journal, and attempts to inundate friends with organized social events that revolve heavily around food -- either eating it or cooking it.
